The Skin Cancer Foundation’s 30th Anniversary Celebration at Castignola’s Restaurant during the American Academy of Dermatology meeting in San Francisco was a very special for evening for the Foundation and its guests.
It began with the Foundation’s annual Research Grants Awards Ceremony hosted by Chairman of the Research Grants Committee, Jean-Claude Bystryn.  After the awards, the research grant recipients and friends of the Foundation stayed to mingle and catch up with one another after a day at the AAD meeting. After cocktails, guests moved upstairs to a private dining room overlooking the water for the Amonette Circle Induction Ceremony and a Roast & Toast of the Foundation’s Founder and President, Perry Robins, MD.

 The Amonette Circle was formed in 2004 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Foundation and is comprised of physicians who make a lifetime commitment of $25,000 to The Skin Cancer Foundation. Membership in the Circle signifies a dedication to fighting skin cancer and demonstrates outstanding leadership in the field of dermatology. In celebration of the Foundation's 30th year, eight new members were inducted into the Circle, bringing membership to 53 members.

Thirty years ago, very little was known about skin cancer and the importance of sun protection. A visionary young doctor saw the need for an organization devoted to skin cancer awareness. Under the leadership of Perry Robins, MD, The Skin Cancer Foundation has become the foremost organization devoted to educating the public and the medical profession about skin cancer, its prevention by means of sun protection, the need for early detection, and prompt, effective treatment. In honor of the Foundation's 30th Anniversary, a few of Dr. Robins' closest friends and colleagues gathered together for a unique opportunity to "roast and toast" him.

The Skin Sense Award Gala honors those who have played a pivotal role in educating the public about the importance of sun protection at a time when skin cancer is increasing at epidemic rates. This year’s event honored David Suliteanu, president and chief executive officer of Sephora USA was honored alongside beauty expert, Lois Joy Johnson, the former beauty and fashion director of More magazine. Dr. Jonathan Levine, co-founder of GoSmile presented the award to Suliteanu, while Dr. Daniel C. Baker, top plastic surgeon and gala benefit chair, introduced Johnson.
